Campaigning Success
Successful six year social media campaign through Friends of QVM Facebook, highlighting trader and customer issues, over 6000 ‘likes’ and reach up to 30000
Successfully campaigned against Doyle’s plans for basement parking and loading under the historical sheds
Held three well-attended public Forums at Drill Hall.
Organised three rallies – one in conjunction with NUW
Placed half page ad in The Age, alerting public of HV submission process.
Submitted numerous articles and letters in media
Produced 4 page colour pamphlet distributed to market customers
Issued Facebook & database ‘Call to Arms’ for objections to Heritage Victoria’ re City of Melbourne’s plans (twice)
Involved prominent Australians – Paul Keating, Sigrid Thornton, Barry Humphries, Father Bob Maguire, Paul Kelly, John Landy, Stephanie Alexander etc
Supported traders in their battles with QVM managements running down of the market, especially for the day market
Successfully mobilised the community and traders against the ‘Glasshouse pavilion’ plans for Queen St
Supported trader and community representatives on Peoples Panel .
Currently campaigning against removal of all vehicles from the market.

We were Represented by barrister Tom Pikusa at 2014 C245 panel hearings; panel accepted his submission notably Ministerial veto over Munro’s
We’ve made numerous submissions opposing City of Melbourne Plans
Lobbying
2016 and 2018 Lord Mayoral election – made QVM one of the central issues facing Melbourne
Supported Sally Warhaft’s ‘Protect the Market’ platform in the 2016 Lord Mayor election
Supported Phil Cleary and Michael Caiafa as Market candidates in 2017 Lord Mayor election
Attended Council meetings and presented our case at numerous Future Melbourne C’tee meetings
Met Market and City of Melbourne officers (Rob Adams, Joanne Wandell, Jan Curran-Harry, Paul Guerra, Stan Liacos, etc etc) and represented community views to them
Arranged meetings with politicians – Minister Wynne (twice), Sally Capp and other Councillors, Tim Smith, David Davis, Fiona Patten, Ellen Sandell, Adam Bandt, David Feeney,
Met with senior advisers to Treasury, Planning and Vic roads
Met with senior Union Officials – Luke Hilikari, John Setka, Troy Gray, Paul Richardson
Liaised with United Workers (then NUW) and participated in Trades Hall Council meeting with NUW and traders
Networked with Royal Historical Society of Victoria, National Trust, Heritage Action
Networked with local residents groups in QVM local area
Organised and promoted an e-petition, sponsored by MP Fiona Patten, that was tabled in Parliament – over 5,000 signed
Worked with Cr Jackie Watts and Fiona Patten to remove Capital City gerrymander
Facilitated alternative market plans with John McNabb & traders
